Gmail appears to be down for users on Thursday morning (02-May-2013). Our outlook keeps prompting for login this morning to access our Google hosted emails. After multiple attempts to access our Google hosted email it does appear that there is a Gmail outage.
We have tried to access Gmail on both our computers though outlook and our mobile devices and have had no success. Also the google apps control panel seems to be down this morning with following message:
"We’re sorry, but your Gmail account is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience and suggest trying again in a few minutes. You can view the Apps Status Dashboard for the current status of the service."
The Gmail issue doesn't appear to be widespread as users are just starting to complain of Gmail, Gchat and Google Doc problems on Twitter. A search for "Gmail Down" and "Why is Gmail Down" returns quite a few results. Google has yet to confirm the Gmail outage, as their App Status page is displaying no current issues. I would expect this to change very soon.
This morning's Gmail outage appears to have happened at 8:20am EST and has been confirmed by a service called DownRightNow. I have seen a 500 service error, but no other information. As mentioned above Gchat, Google Docs, Google Drive and Gmail have been affected by this outage. Once we have more information on what is causing the Gmail outage and why it's down, we will update the article.
